A Maui Mini field guide

Are twenty
minutes enough?

Often, yes. A short session can match a child’s natural attention span—but it is not the right format for every family or every plan.

Is 20 minutes really long enough?

For many families, yes. Twenty minutes works best when children are photographed during a naturally happy part of their day, everyone arrives ready, and the photographer uses movement and simple prompts instead of rigid posing.

Why shorter can work

Children rarely need more instructions; they need fewer expectations. A focused session moves before boredom builds. We begin with easy group photographs, then use walking, play, and connection to create variety.

What 25+ images means

The gallery is edited for quality and variety, not padded with near-duplicates. At least 25 high-resolution photographs are included and delivered in 24–48 hours.

A mini session is a good fit when…

  • Your group has five or fewer people.
  • You want one shoreline location and one outfit.
  • Your children respond well to play and simple direction.
  • You value a concise vacation experience over a long production.

Choose a longer session when…

  • You have a large or multigenerational group with many combinations.
  • You want multiple locations or clothing changes.
  • A child needs substantial time to warm up around new people.
  • You want a broader editorial story rather than a focused set of family portraits.

For those needs, explore the longer experiences at our parent studio, Wailea Photo.

How parents can help

Schedule around sleep and meals, bring children dressed and ready, and avoid promising perfect behavior. Let the photographer direct the pace. If sunset overlaps with bedtime, read our sunrise versus sunset guide before choosing.
